The budget Ryanair airlines has included several Greek airports in its destinations the past few years and now officials of Lefkada island say they will be added, through a connection at Aktio Airport (PVK) on the mainland nearby Preveza. That will further connect Western Greece with European capitals and is aimed at attracting more tourists.
Aktio will add flights from Greece to Rome and Brussels from May through October 2013. Aktio doesn’t just connect one tourist destination with Europe, as expected. It is located in the region of Aktio, just outside the picturesque town of Preveza and close to the Ionian island of Lefkada as well as the popular town of Parga.
Local authorities agreed with Ryanair to include two European destinations to their routes choosing Brussels with four flights per week and Rome, offering two flights per week. The President of the Lefkada Chamber, Sotiris Skiadaressis, said the flights could attract 19,000 new visitors to the broader area. Ryanair connects Europe with many Greek airports including Corfu, Kefalonia, Rhodes, Kos, Volos, Chania, Araxos (Patras) and Thessaloniki.
